Each defined stage analyzes the biomechanics that influence success in the discus spin technique. The paper improves the reader’s understanding of the specific style for throwing the discus. A discussion follows on training recommendations in the multiple stages of the discus spin. Reasoning for specific accelerations and strong ground reaction forces are addressed. Important drills and training methods are discussed that strengthen portions of an overall spin technique and result in an optimal throw for the athlete. Other topics that follow include a review of rules and regulations of the discus throw, release angles, and body limb alignment. In conclusion, this article reinforces the importance of proper and specific biomechanics for the discus spin technique and encourages more in depth research for the event.
